Thank you, Mel. Yes, I agree — God waits for our response to His surprises and His goodness. But it’s not a selfish waiting. He is Love, so His desire for our response is because WE need to focus on Him. That’s how we receive more of Him, and grow and mature. That’s when we realize the abundant life that He’s promised to give. Ahhh, God is good!

“Let your mercy and loving kindness, O Lord, be upon us, in proportion to our waiting and hoping for You” (verse 22).
Do we say to someone, “I LOVE YOU!”, then wait for that person’s response; hoping they will reciprocate by confessing “I LOVE YOU TOO!” And if they don’t, are we hurt, disappointed, even feeling rejected by that person’s indifference to our love? The answer is YES, YES and YES. How God must feel (He LOVED us first) when we reject, ignore His loving kindness, His gifts. He doesn’t need to hide behind some great cloud and watch for our responses but He knows our hearts. God wants to see what we will do with His Love and how we will SHARE His gift. Great observations Sherry!

Hi, and welcome to my blog! Yes, tragedies do occur. And yes, God can even work through them or in spite of them, for our good. Not only that, but one of my points was that God is still with us during those tragedies, standing with us, crying with us, even shielding us from something worse. We can’t see behind the curtain of God’s actions. Someday we will, but for now we only need to know that He is with us and has our best good at heart. A quote I had memorized at one time goes something like this: “If we could see the end from the beginning . . . we would choose (the way we have come — cam’t remember exact wording).”

I am going to apply these to my life. I agree with this, except I think that some things are tragedies, though God can absolutely work good out of them..

A good question, Christina. When they glorify God, great good can happen, both to others and to ourselves. when we use them to glorify ourselves, not only do others not receive the blessing God intended, but we ourselves are taken further away from God. Sobering thought, huh?

Hi Steve, God created us in His image, so He created us with the capacity to bless others as He does — with the gifts He gives us. It all goes back to God, but it’s awesome that He trusts us to be part of His work!

I completely agree. God creates us all with a unique set of talents or gifts and they are tools that are meant to be used along the way. He equips us with everything that we need in order to do what he has called us to do. The question is whether we will use these tools to glorify God or ourselves.

Thanks for this post. I know I have a gift of love, but I realized not all that long ago, I have a gift of encouragement too. God does bless us with gifts and these gifts are used to glorify him. They can be used to be servants to others, like Christ served others. God Bless you!

Hi Florence,

God is not limited! Only humans are. Good thing, huh! You, my friend, have some awesome gifts that God has used and is using — gifts like compassion, organization, leadership, etc., and many more that one can’t see online. (I hope we get to meet in person someday.) Please don’t ever think you are lacking in gifts. God created YOU special, and has a special work for you!

I used to get stuck a lot on spiritual gifts so I love what you write here:

“Are these all the gifts? No, of course not! They are a representative sample. You may have a spiritual gift of baking bread, or writing letters, that God has given you to use for His glory. ”

I may possess one or two of the traditional ‘gifts’ but it’s good to know that the creativity of Elohim extends beyond this.
